I've fallen for another...
Ok so I was studying while looking online at wedding stuff and I decided to look around at other wedding dresses. I picked out one I absolutely love a few months ago, but since then I've been thinking about the price tag on a dress I'm only going to wear once. Plus the lady at the shop where I found it was really bitchy and is every time I go in there. So I was browsing tonight and I think I've found a different dress. I ran it by my friend Kristine and she noted that it had really clean lines and looks really nice. Of course, I'd try it on first before thinking of buying it, but it's got several perks:
1. It's at David's Bridal. For those of you unaware of the locations of these, the closest ones are in Minnesota, which means NO sales tax on clothing. Let's do the math: let's say it's $900 for the WI dress at the bitchy lady place. Take that times I think it might be a 7% (?) sales tax which makes it $63 for tax alone. That's a hair-do on the wedding day or part of a plane ticket for the honeymoon!
2. The cost of the David's Bridal dress is less than half of the down payment of the bitchy woman-place dress.
3. It still abides by my "simple elegance" ideal picture for the wedding, so I wouldn't be compromising my own picture of the event just for cost's sake.
I can't wait to get up to either Rochester or the cities to look at it, and maybe even pick this puppy up! I'd post a picture, but for the sake of TJ seeing my blog and it, I refuse to do so. Besides, I want the people who come to first see it as I'm walking down the aisle anyway :o)
That's all for now, goodnight!

Yea, but it's *David's Bridal* Christy and I went to the closest store in MN (Near Rosedale maybe?) and the store was a mess. We couldn't get any help. We looked at some dresses, and the quality of them was really cheap. Granted, you wear it once, but it's got to survive the fittings.
My cousin owns a bridal shop in Elk River (north on 169 out of Minneapolis). 3 of my nieces have bought Prom dresses there, and another bought her wedding dress there. /shameless plug
Christy got hers off of the rack from Mestads, during their going out of business sale. Final cost of the dress, accessories, jewelry - everything but shoes - was ~ $550.
Niles,
Did you have an appointment at the davids bridal in the cities? thats where I got my wedding dress, and I got personal attention and it was a TON of fun! (and the store was clean). I do appreciate a small locally owned shop too though. They seem a little more special sometimes.
Cathy,
I say hold off on putting a down payment on your dress until your wedding is a year away, that way you won't go through so much of the "oh, but look at THAT one" phenomenon that you are finding. I know you won't listen to me, and do it your own way anyway, but I thought that it might help you.
p.s. Can you email ME the link for the dress? I promise I won't show it to TJ.
Yeah, I told Cat to go up there, try it on, and then see what she thinks. Of course the pictures online are going to show off the dress to advantage. I think it looks promising, and at a savings of $600-700, it's worth a look.
Niles, I know exactly which David's Bridal you're talking about, it's the one by Buffalo Wild Wings. And I'm totally with you on David's Bridal. I remember going to the one in Rochester with Cat when she was first looking at dresses, and all of the sales staff except the one helping Cathy were just bitchy. There was an entourage of something like 7 of us young women (plus Cat's mom and aunt)...do they not realize that they are accruing bad will from 7 potential brides?
I will definitely remember to avoid David's Bridal when I never get married.
I agree with the waiting thing. It's 10 months from then, so I've got time, and it's only 1 day so I won't cry if the dress is gone by then, I'm sure I'll find another "OOH". It's the groom choice that's the most important, right? And I already know I've got that one down :o)
Niles, what is the name of the store? I'm very open-minded right now and am willing to look almost anywhere!
Kristine,
When I went to go try on dresses at Davids Bridal, I went during the week, during the day. That way they didn't have a lot of appointments. They also recomend that you don't bring more than 3 or 4 people with you, otherwise it gets to be a bit much. I had no problems with anyone there. I went to the store in Maple Grove. I also went to one other one to get my bridesmaid dress for my cousins wedding. I had no problems with either store. The later was packed though. It was a saturday, and it was during their $99 sale, so I expected it, which is why I made a reservation one week in advance. It also helps them to know how many you are bringing in your enterage.

I say if the dress is cheap but doesn't look cheap, fabulous. I've seen the pics of Cathy in the two dresses at David's Bridal in Roch, and she looks beautiful. The dresses don't look cheap either.
Christine, my issue with David's Bridal was this: Regardless of when the appointment was, and regardless of how many people Cathy had with her, rude and snotty behavior to customers (current or potential) is NOT professional behavior. I'm glad you had good experiences with them...it is unfortunate that yours is not the universal impression.
Kristin, I'm kind of with you on wanting a unique dress, but really I don't think it matters TOO much - it's not quite like prom where two women could show up in the same formal!
Yes I agree, the persons attitude at the bridal shop makes a HUGE difference. Cathy origionally had a down payment on a dress where the lady was a real b*&%#. I used to be a bridal registrar, and that first impression means everything. For my cousins wedding (in April) She booked a DJ, it has been a while, and she still has not seen a contract from him, so she is continuing to look. Obviously since he doesn't have time just to send her a contract, he doesn't have time for her wedding (and the money). If I should ever get married again, I am planning on choosing Davids Bridal again (in Maple Grove) there is a little dress shop here in E.C. though that I would love to look in too. I believe that the little shops do try harder, and are sometimes worth the extra $$
I didn't put a down payment on that bitchy woman place dress. I was thinking about it, but decided to look around, which sparked this new dress search.
