To study or not to study...

Update again:
-DAT went REALLY well, I'm hoping it'll be the deciding factor to get me into dental school
(currently knocking on wood 'til my knuckles bleed)
-Living at home won't be as scary of an adjustment as I thought; I spoke with mom and I'm not getting an unreasonable curfew imposed on me, she's actually treating me like a normal, capable adult
-Tomorrow I need to remember to call the cops and try to get out of an erroneous parking ticket.

Okay here's where I poll the readers again. The question has been brought to my attention that if I am to find out I'm accepted into dental school before classes start second semester, (again with the wood knocking), would I still take classes second semester?

Mom says I should continue to keep my health insurance and says it'd look good to take the classes I'm signed up for. The classes part is irrelevant, 'cause if I'm already in, they don't care what I do after I get the acceptance letter as long as it's nothing illegal. The health insurance thing brings up a good point, although I'm a healthy 22 year old woman. I'm pretty convinced I can go the semester and summer without health insurance and be perfectly fine. The only exception to this would be if a car accident was to happen during this time or any other catastrophic thing you can't plan for.
Another point in the anti-classes approach is the fact that I'd be able to work full time and save up some mad cash for maybe a down payment on a townhouse or something, depending on what housing option TJ and I go for. Or, perhaps, the wedding costs. Money is good, and I'd get more of it if I didn't take classes I didn't need for anything. I'd already have my bachelor's degree in Health too, that's another point.

So yeah, what do you think? Leave comments, I'm interested in opinions on this one.

I'm cautious, and I'd be inclined to agree with your mom - I'm big on keeping health benefits AND on deferring loans. You won't be making such mad cash once you figure in your loan payment.

However, mad cash or not, you will be making more money than you would be if you were taking classes and paying tuition. So really it boils down to what you and TJ think is best.

Actually, between scholarships and a collaborative effort on both (mostly my mom's) and my part, I don't have any loans. It really just boils down to health insurance vs. $$.

PICK HEATH INSURANCE!!!!!
Pick School and Health insurance. You have the REST of your life to work full time. I would be able to do the school thing if I didn't HAVE to work full time to have health insurance and bills. This is a unique time in your life. Make the right decisions. You have all the time in the world to work more hours! Plus, you can donate plasma after your classes and earn $50 a week cash from that too!

Someone suggested I just audit the classes, so I can take them and I'd get the credit, but I wouldn't have to take the tests for the course, which would free up more work time.
I like that idea, but wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy myself some health insurance for those months instead of paying for classes to get the same thing?

I hear plasma donation hurts like a bitch. FYI.

Look into what health insurance would cost. Can't it be upward of $300/month? I don't remember what my mom told me it would cost per month to keep me on their insurance, but it was frighteningly high. But if you can do it realistically and still save money from working, then it would be a viable option.

Like I said before...I'd be likely to come down on the side of health insurance and school. However, as I also said before, it is a choice you - and to an extent TJ - have to make.

I actually donated/sold plasma last summer for extra cash while living in Sheboygan. I dontated blood regularily before then, so it really wasn't any different in terms of pain. The only thing that was odd was the feeling when they put the red blood cells back in you. I actually like doing the plasma thing better 'cause you get paid and don't feel as tired 'cause of the rbc replacement.
